SGI Initiatives 2017-2018

Improve the Student Experience

  • Support senior administrators, including the Provost and the deans of each college, in their efforts to improve academic advisement
  • Improve co-curricular and extracurricular advisement by fostering intra-university relationships and providing external resources
  • Enhance advocacy for students by building stronger relationships with administration in student advisory meetings, including dining, public safety, and IT meetings

Build a Unified St. John’s Community

  • Continue to expand community partnerships, by working with businesses to provide student discounts
  • Establish an additional standing committee which will focus on the SGI Serves initiative, including University Service Day, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and Relay for Life
  • Enhance university pride in St. John’s by restructuring Traditions under the Student Affairs Committee to concentrate on implementing and creating new staple events
  • Implement diversity-training programs for the student body by collaborating with OMA and other resources on campus

Empower Students through Organizations

  • Strengthen the relationship between administration, SGI, and student organizations by increasing communication, transparency, and accountability between the three parties
  • Encourage collaboration, communication, and engagement among students by informing students and organizations about the value of utilizing StormSync
  • Create an “Event Consultant” under the Events Review committee to assist organizations in programming endeavors
  • Host a series of workshops under the Organizations committee to develop necessary skills that are beneficial to organizations and student leaders
